Amongst most famous games over the world are PubG & Call of Duty. We are going to look into the aspect of Cyber Security.
The game is based on previous mods that were created by Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene for other games, inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, and expanded into a standalone game under Greene’s creative direction.
In the game, up to one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for weapons and equipment to kill others while avoiding getting killed themselves. The available safe area of the game’s map decreases in size over time, directing surviving players into tighter areas to force encounters. The last player or team standing wins the round.
PUBG Mobile: What is the DDoS attack affecting servers across the world?
PUBG Mobile has recently been facing the problems of disconnecting and servers freezing. The game developers are looking into the issue and are actively working on resolving the same, which is being caused by DDoS attacks, as per the message posted by the devs.
The official response by the developers on their social media handles stated the following:
“Dear players, we are currently encountering several waves of DDoS attacks against our systems that are causing players to disconnect. Our team immediately started taking action and is working closely with local Internet service providers to resolve the issue.”
“We aim to bring back the normal gaming experience to our players as soon as possible. With this announcement, we would also like to inform you that a new anti-cheat patch will be released soon. In the meantime, we have deployed more security team members to put a serious stop to cheaters. Like our players, we have always had a zero-tolerance policy against cheating and hacking.”
“We thank you for your patience and continued support as we work towards creating a fair and even playing field for our players.”
Call Of Duty – COD
Call of Duty is a first-person shooter video game franchise published by Activision. Starting out in 2003, it first focused on games set in World War II. Over time, the series has seen games set in the midst of the Cold War, futuristic worlds, and outer space. The games were first developed by Infinity Ward, then also by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games. Several spin-off and handheld games were made by other developers. The most recent title, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, was released on November 13, 2020.
While PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, popularly known as PUBG, is currently banned in India and despite several attempts by the game lovers to somehow play it on their mobiles by circumventing the ban via virtual private networks (VPNs) and servers located in other countries, PUBG remains a distant reality for millions and the community is scouting for new games.
The Government of India recently banned 59 Chinese apps on concerns over the safety and security of user data and privacy of Indians. However, the biggest doubt on everyone’s mind is, why the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or PUBG or the Call of Duty Mobile battle royale game did not find any mention in the list of banned apps?
PUBG is not banned in India as it is not entirely Chinese. The game has been created and managed by Bluehole which is a South Korean organisation. After PUBG became popular, Tencent — a Chinese conglomerate — joined hands with Bluehole to market the product in China and started handling a large portion of its distribution. The game is distributed in India by Tencent Holdings.
Call of Duty Mobile is the mobile version of the famous video game series ‘Call of Duty’. The game received massive response during beta testing, as well as when it was released.
COD Mobile, which is one of the most loved mobile gaming apps, is developed by an American tech company called Activision Blizzard in partnership with Tencent Game, the company behind PUBG Mobile and Timi.
Tencent Holdings also has 5 per cent ownership in Activision Blizzard. While one cannot dismiss the game’s Chinese links, its mixed-ownership could have played a role in the government’s decision to not omit COD from its list of banned apps.
